About Us

We bring some of the best creative talent in the Triangle together – graphic artists, web and digital developers, writers and videographers – to custom-design your project.

Company

FireStream Media specializes in web design, interactive media development and video production, enhanced by our award-winning documentary film experience. Our full-service, client-focused studio, located in downtown Durham, provides additional leading edge marketing support from brand identity, logo design, and animation to motion graphics and eLearning projects.

We listen to our clients every step of the way. When you need additional work after your site goes live, we’re there – providing support, fixing any problem that arises, reducing your stress. We speak plain English, so clients don’t have to slog through technical jargon. Dedicated customer service is our priority – for the life of your site.

We collaborate with top local creative talent, custom-building teams of experienced graphic designers, database and web developers, animators, writers, videographers and film editors, to meet the needs of each project. Our strategic approach drives our work, so even as we focus on the details – we never miss the big picture. Your big picture.

Founder

Carol Thomson brings over 25 years of experience in web and software development, multimedia, and project management to her leadership of FireStream Media. A former instructor at the Duke Center for Documentary Studies, she also worked for Duke University Medical Center, BroadBand Technologies, Topsail Technologies, and Brisbane City Council, building the expertise that would become the foundation for FireStream Media.

Between client projects, Carol produced and directed two award-winning documentaries, including the interactive Bridging Rails to Trails: Stories of the American Tobacco Trail for which she received the Ella Fountain Pratt Emerging Artists Award, and The Rise and Fall of Liberty, winner of the Longleaf Film Festival’s Best Overall Documentary Feature prize, about the fate of an iconic tobacco auction house in Durham. She also earned a Gracie Award from American Women in Radio and Television for the short video, HAND – Health Arts Network at Duke. A two-sport college athlete, Carol stays in shape running, hiking and biking; her personal passions range from making pottery, finding new mountain bike trails and all things Durham.
